Computer giant Apple is fighting a court order to pay $US625 million to a software company that claimed Apple had infringed three patents on technology used in its iPod, iPhone and Mac computers.
According to Bloomberg, Apple has asked for an emergency stay of the verdict, handed down by a US district court on October 1.
Apple has vigorously defended the claim from Texas-based company Mirror World, founded by Yale University computer-science professor David Gelernter.
The claims relates to technology used to display items on the iPhone, iPod and Mac devices. For example, Apple’s Cover Flow lets users scroll through album cover art when browsing for music in their iTunes library.
According to Bloomberg, Apple claims the $625 million payout represents “triple-dipping” if Mirror World is able to collect on all three patents.
