Hackers targeting Apple products

Hackers could be focusing on vulnerabilities in Apple software that could allow them to control devices remotely, Symantec has warned.

A new Symantec report says the specific vulnerability is contained in the iOS, which powers Apple’s handheld and portable devices such as the iPhone. iPod Touch and iPad.

Kevin Mahaffey, chief technology officer for security firm Lookout, told Reuters that while he is not aware of an incident whereby hackers have actually taken control of an Apple gadget, there is no fix for the software’s vulnerability and a breach could occur.

“Everybody – both good and bad – knows how it works,” he said.

The warning comes as security experts have gathered in Las Vegas over the past week to speak about various developments in the software industry, including gaps in Google’s mobile operating software, Android.
