New statistics from analytics firm StatCounter reveal Google Chrome has passed Apple’s Safari browser as the third-most popular in the US market.
In the week to June 27, Chrome took 8.97% of the US market, with Safari taking just 8.88%. Internet Explorer took the majority with a 52% market share, followed by Firefox at 28.5%.
“This is quite a coup for Google as they have gone from zero to almost 10% of the US market in under two years,” Aodhan Cullen, chief executive of StatCounter, said in a statement.
Google has been slowly adding to its Chrome browser. Next year it will bring an app store to the software, designed for third-party developers to sell programs and other features.
