China to heat up on cyber crime

The Chinese Government is reportedly set to crackdown on cyber crime and improve its monitoring practices, according to state media.

The Xinhua news agency has reported that Wang Chen, head of the Information Office of the State Council, said they will strengthen its efforts to prevent “overseas hostile forces from infiltrating through the internet”.

Additionally, Chen has also said the Government will strengthen monitoring of “harmful information” in order to prevent certain types of information spreading throughout the country.

China is well-known for its controls on the internet. It has censored a number of sites, including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, and companies such as Google have had to comply with the Government’s requests to block certain types of information from users.
