Can the office do-gooder impose her personal beliefs on the rest of us?

Dear Aunty B,

On the Thursday before Easter we have a traditional breakfast called “Eat Yourself Sick”. It is not as gross as it sounds and it’s for a good cause. We all bring something chocolaty and share it for breakfast, like chocolate muffins or croissants. Then we put the money we usually spend on breakfast into the tin for the kiddoes at the RCH.

But my manager’s husband just had cancer and she has gone all organic. She changed the name of the breakfast to “Eat Yourself Well” and we all had to bring healthy food to share.

My idea of healthy stuff is tomato sauce with my pie! So I took a plate of lolly bananas. She came into my office after the breakfast and told me off for sabotaging it.

I told her she was taking all the fun out of the breakfast. And this year we raised the smallest amount of money EVER for the RCH.

Is she right to impose her own personal beliefs on the rest of us?

GC

Dear GC,

I love a lolly banana. In fact I have been known to buy a bag of mixed lollies, pick out the bananas and hand the rest of the packet around the office. Look, it sounds like you have a great tradition in the office. But sometimes when a do-gooder fiddles with it, it can be a sign that the thing has run its course. What you need is a new idea.

Here is what you should do. First, stick your hand in your pocket and make up the difference for the kiddies at the RCH. Then catch up with the manager and tell her you need a fresh idea for next year.

Good luck!
