Internet giant Google is expanding its Street View maps operation to off-road locations with the help of cyclists with cameras.
The Google trikes will explore areas such as the Taronga Zoo in Sydney in order to photograph areas where Street View users cannot view using the normal map functions.
The company has used the bicycles to photograph destinations in the US, Britain and Europe.
“The Street View Trike will help us to create an ever more comprehensive virtual atlas of Australia,” Google Australia’s engineering manager, Raul Vera, said in a statement.
“We’re lucky enough to live in a country with some of the most spectacular natural environments and architectural features on the globe, and the trike will allow us to get off-road to share these marvels with people around Australia and the world.”
