Apple buys wireless advertising firm Quattro

Tech and software giant Apple has bought mobile advertising company Quattro Wireless for a reported $US275 million.

The company delivers advertising on mobile websites and applications for the iPhone, Android and various other mobile platforms. Its customers include Disney, Ford, Kmart, Microsoft and Visa.

The move comes after internet giant Google acquired AdMob in order to advertise on mobile platforms.

It is expected Quattro staff will be joined up with existing Apple staff. It is rumoured the company is set to introduce some sort of advertising model for apps on the App Store.

“We remain focused on delivering more engaging, relevant and useful ads to mobile devices, and improving the measurement and execution of digital campaigns,” Quattro’s Andy Miller, said in a statement.
