The rise of video sharing site YouTube has made every man, woman and child with a movie camera into instant film makers. But putting a movie up on YouTube doesn’t have the same cache as getting your film shown in an actual cinema.
But Springwise reports that a Dutch advertising firm is helping YouTube movies make the jump from online to offline by holding monthly events where a selection of internet short films are shown in an actual theatre.
The events, known as Upload Cinema, usually have a theme, such as homemade remakes of classic films or the best web shorts of 2008 (the title of the January event).
Only members can view the films, and membership is limited to those who have been invited or who have entered a film that was accepted into a screening.
