THE NEWS WRAP: Mass production of Apple smartwatch to begin in July

Taiwan’s Quanta Computer Inc will start mass production of Apple’s first smartwatch in July, sources told Reuters.

A commercial launch of the watch could come as early as October.

It will feature a display that likely measures 2.5 inches diagonally and is slightly rectangular, has a touch interface, wireless charging, and Apple expects to ship 50 million products within a year of release, a source said.

The watch, the name of which is unknown, will provide a production boost for Quanta. Its work up until now has focused on laptops and iPods, two product lines that are in decline.
