A new start-up incubator is set to launch this week at Sydney’s northern beachside suburb of Manly, aiming to tap the area’s lifestyle potential as an attractive place to create a new technology business.
TechBeach is the brainchild of Darren Younger, a co-founder of cloud-based contact centre business IPscape, who told StartupSmart there was plenty of room for another incubator as Australia’s start-up ecosystem evolves.
“The only thing that slows it down is how many start-ups that can be funded,” he says.
Younger says he’s had a lot of success with IPscape and was inspired to create an incubator after working with entrepreneurs in Manly over the past six to 12 months.
The TechBeach incubator program is set to be launched on Friday and will be based at the Manly Emporium co-working space.
Younger says he wants to highlight Manly’s lifestyle opportunities and that the co-working space wasn’t just about “hard core working”.
“A lot of IT companies in Manly have a board room – they have it for their surf boards,” he says.
Younger says one of the benefits of Manly for entrepreneurs is its strong tourist focus.
“If you’ve got a start-up around tourism there’s a lot of potential for testing there,” he says.
