Beatlemania has hit the UK with the release of “The Beatles: Rock Band” video game, which went on sale Wednesday at the same time as the group’s digitally remastered albums.
Fans gathered on Tuesday night at Liverpool’s famous Cavern Club – the venue which gave the group its first break – to play a pre-sale preview of the interactive game, which lets players control Beatles avatars in concerts, recording studios and virtual scenarios.
The Fab Four’s foray into gaming has sparked more buzz than any video game since the last “Grand Theft Auto”, bringing massive queues at games and record stores.
The game includes 45 of the most popular Beatles songs, including I Want to Hold Your Hand, Ticket to Ride and Can’t Buy Me Love. More songs can be downloaded at the game’s online store.
Meanwhile, rumours that the Beatles’ entire works will become available on iTunes heated up yesterday with an announcement by Sky News UK confirming the speculation.
The online announcement quoted Yoko Ono but was pulled from the Sky website two hours after it appeared.
