Tweet seats are a sweet idea

feature-twitter-logo-hashtag-thumbTheatregoers are being offered “tweet seats” in the United States, where it’s not taboo to be distracted by smartphones during the show.

Rhode Island’s Providence Performing Arts Centre has a small allocation of seats in the back for those who promise to live-tweet from the performance using a special hashtag, and cast members tweet from backstage for instant feedback from tweeters.

Similar sections have sprung up in New York’s Broadway.

And while Boston’s Huntington Theatre hasn’t got in on the act yet, it has introduced “Twittermission” where an artist answers questions about the show with tweets projected on screens in the theatre lobby.

Is there an opportunity to introduce the concept of “tweet seats” in Australia? It could work well at conferences and comedy shows.
