Self-adjustable glasses have a clear direction

start-up-idea-eyejustersStandards of eye care in the developing world could receive a significant boost thanks to an optical invention that works as a sight test and glasses all in one.

While the new glasses don’t replace the work done by optometrists, Eyejusters co-founder Owen Reading says the glasses can improve sight for people who don’t have easy access to optometry services.

The person wearing the glasses simply focuses them by turning a removable dial on the frame until the object they’re looking at appears in focus.

“We’re happy to agree that optometrists provide a better standard of care. They check for eye disease and all sorts of things that we can’t do,” Reading says.

“However, our glasses are particularly useful for parts of the developing world where there are very few optometrists so people are unable to get a pair of glasses prescribed.”

As entrepreneurs become increasingly aware of global issues they can solve, it’s not surprising start-ups like Eyejusters are making waves. Can you think of any issues you can help solve?
