iPhone App of the Week: F.A.S.T.

By far, the most popular category in Apple’s App Store is entertainment, with seven of the current top 10 apps being games. Gaming studios are now spending more time and resources creating advanced, complex gaming simulations for the device.

One such program is F.A.S.T, a flight simulator created by California-based Social Gaming Network, which has cashed in on the iPhone gaming craze by recording a massive $1.2 million in revenue since its launch – just six weeks ago.

The game has varied in price from $US9.99 to its current $1.19. It uses the phone’s accelerometer to steer a fighter jet, with the user required to tilt the phone in all directions to avoid missiles from enemy fighters.

The game has been praised by reviewers and app developers for both its graphics and ease of us, citing F.A.S.T as an example of how lucrative the gaming development business can be on the iPhone.
