Don’t get too caught up in politics

There’s nothing quite like a good leadership tussle. The Taskmaster still gets a little nostalgic remembering the pitch battle I fought for the right to be school captain of my grammar school back in form five.

I ran a politically deft campaign, outwitting my opponent with a series of well-planned public appearances. In other words, I shouted everyone anything they wanted at the school canteen every day for a week and won in a landslide.

My constituents and I learned an important lesson that year, during my reign. No matter who is at the top, nothing much changes for the little guy. Did I fulfil my promise to have the water taps filled with soft drink? No. Did I fulfil my promise to get every Friday off? No.

Life doesn’t get easier or harder, the opportunities don’t any bigger or smaller, and making changes remains hard work that takes time.

It’s not until you are truly in charge of your own destiny – as a business owner – that you get to have a real say over your world.

So don’t get caught up in the ALP leadership fight – your world won’t change no matter who is PM. There will be lots of noise for the next few weeks, but don’t be distracted. Focus on getting sales in the door. Focus on your cashflow. Focus on things that matter.

Get it done – today!
