Fashion can weigh on the minds of many consumers, and one Australian retailer has taken this logic to the extreme.
Unlike traditional stores, where customers purchase full priced or partially discounted clothes, Fashion Brands by Kg is introducing a system where customers pay for each item by the gram.
Managing director Joseph Golubinsky says popular brands including Tommy Hilfiger will be sold from six cents per gram, Ralph Lauren from eight cents, and DKNY from 12 cents.
According to Golubinsky, Fashion Brands by Kg offers what consumers want.
“At the end of the day, buying clothes by weight is a very different retail experience. It’s a low price, cheaper than outlet stores,” he says.
At the moment, the store is only available in Brisbane, but that’s not to say there won’t be more stores coming to Australia.
If this kind of concept is what consumers are looking for, perhaps the “pay-as-you-weigh” model could be applied to other items. Can you think of any other categories?
